Remember the absolutely critical Omnibus spending bill Congress muscled through at the end of last year? It was 4,000 pages that no one read and cost taxpayers $1.7 trillion.

In our Let's Cut Some Spending series, ForAmerica will chronicle parts of the 2021 and 2022 spending bills from a variety of sources that you probably don't know about - programs, grants and spending of all kinds that should have never happened in the first place and many that are still happening.

Today’s offering: $5.7 million for journalists who feel harassed online!

The Daily Caller reports:

The Biden administration has approved $5.7 million in grant funding to George Washington University to create a program that will provide psychological care to journalists who believe they are the targets of “misinformation-driven harassment campaigns.” The program, called Expert Voices Together, is described in the government grant database as “a socio-technical system that provides real-time support to experts experiencing online harassment.” The project’s goal is to provide journalists, and eventually other “experts,” with means of “monitoring and reporting” alleged abuse, as well as “personalized assistance with digital safety” and access to “mental health care specialists” as a form of “trauma-informed care.”

The report added, "The National Science Foundation characterizes providing journalists with mental health counseling as part of an effort to address the 'rapid spread of misinformation' because 'harassment undermines confidence in pivotal sources of knowledge and reduces expert participation in the information ecosystem.”

In other words, if "expert" journalists can't "participate" in news due to "harassment," "misinformation" might happen.

You know, "misinformation" like the Hunter Biden laptop story being legit. Which reporters told us was not legit and ended up being wrong.

You know, "misinformation" like COVID-19 originating in a Chinese lab being a legit theory. Which reporters told us was not legit and now even the FBI thinks the Wuhan lab leak theory is likely true.

But now, the next time reporters feel harassed for spreading fake news, there is $5.7 million in our tax dollars to console them.
