Last week, Joe Biden announced that he would be taking executive action to crackdown on illegal immigration at the southern border.
This week, we learn that the Biden administration has allowed 72 percent of the migrants who illegally crossed the border near San Diego to be released into the U.S.
So much for a 'crackdown.'
More than 6,800 migrants were encountered by Border agents in the Southern California border sector between June 5 and Tuesday morning.
Among that group, more than 4,900 migrants have been released. The New York Post was the first to report these numbers by looking at internal federal data.
National Border Patrol Council President for the San Diego border sector Manny Bayon told the Post, “It’s all smoke and mirrors. We have to have cooperation with the countries where we’re sending them back."
Border agents have reportedly been told to ignore keeping or sending migrants back to over 100 countries because they won't accept deportations.
The New York Post reports, "The Biden administration’s new policy is meant to deter illegal border crossers by blocking them from applying for asylum until the number of migrant encounters across the whole southern border falls below 1,500 per day for seven consecutive days. If that happens, the restrictions could go back into effect when migrant encounters go back up to 2,500 each day for seven days in a row."
"Despite those numbers, the official wording of the order says certain groups are excluded, such as those who use the CBP One phone app to cross at a port of entry, enter as unaccompanied minors, or can prove they have suffered 'severe' forms of trafficking or face medical emergencies," the Post noted. "It also says the number doesn’t apply to migrants who are 'permitted to enter … due to operational considerations at the time of the entry,' which potentially excludes all the 4,900 individuals released in the San Diego sector."
Bayon would add, “We’re way beyond capacity here in San Diego and it doesn’t look like it’s gonna be lighter anytime soon."
So it would seem that Biden's declaration that he would do something about illegal immigration has no teeth.
Is anyone really surprised?
It is transparent that the only reason Biden has decided to pretend to do something about illegal immigration is because he is drowning in the polls for his re-election and it is a weak spot for him.
He's had since 2020 to address this grave problem. And he's completely ignored it.
Not only is Joe Biden still not being serious about ending illegal immigration, he thinks the American people are stupid enough to believe that he is serious.
We're not stupid Joe. As San Diego is now learning the hard way.
