Bill Maher doesn't think The View is a good advertisement for women.
That's not good for a show specifically targeted at women.
The HBO host made his comments during an interview with actress Drew Barrymore on his Club Random podcast that was released on Monday.
Maher acknowledged that he was friends with The View co-hosts, but also said that their show is "a lot."
Maher said, "I’m friendly with some of the ladies on The View and I love them but that show’s a lot, and I think I’d rather..."
Barrymore said, "Joy came on our show..." referring to her talk show.
"I love Joy!" Maher exclaimed.
Barrymore continued, "She literally had the best time, she was like, what the f*** is going on here? No one comes to stop us. Yeah, it’s a playground. It’s so chill and fun, I didn’t want to do anything tropey or overtimed. I wanted to find something different there."
That's when Maher got real.
"You know, I love Whoopi and Joy. Those are the two I really know," he said. "And I did it like a year ago and I liked everybody, but I don’t know if they’re really at this moment the best advertisement for women."
His guest, who is obviously a woman, did not seem to disagree.
"It’s a format, that show," she lamented.
Maher would add, "They say some things that are just like, not helpful, like say to elections."
The View is notoriously anti-Trump and perhaps he meant the constant arrogant tone on their show might have driven voters to Republicans in the past.
Also, Bill Maher does have a point: That The View really isn't the best representation of women.
Again, the one woman he said it to on his podcast definitely didn't disagree.
