Bill Maher: Charlie Kirk Was Willing to Debate. The Left Will Not

Bill Maher had Charlie Kirk on his podcast in April, the Turning Point USA founder who was tragically assassinated last Wednesday.
Maher said that the right and figures like Kirk are willing to sit down and talk to people who disagree with them. They are willing to debate.
But the left won't. They won't even attempt to debate, the host said.
Maher made his remarks on his latest "Club Random" podcast released on Monday.
Maher said, “Charlie Kirk was a guy who was always talking. And I talked to him here. The right-wingers, say what you want about them, but they talk to you."
He continued, "The left really has much more of a ‘I don’t talk to you, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re deplorable, I can’t break bread with you,’ that attitude."
"All the right-wingers, they don’t have that attitude," he added.
The HBO and podcast host then elaborated.
“Charlie Kirk and I certainly don’t agree on much politically," he said. "But he sat here, he’s a human being, he’s not a monster... I liked him. I like them all.”
Maher, who is definitely on the left, then humanized conservatives.
“They’re all nice people when you meet them in person," Maher insisted. "And nobody’s as crazy as they make them out to be."
How refreshing.
During Kirk's appearance on Maher's show four months ago, both agreed that extreme trans ideology would continue to hurt Democrats in elections. Maher has criticized the Left for this many times.
Kirk acknowledged Maher for “being a liberal that acknowledges male-female distinctions.”
Both made fun of the fact that Democrats were basically gifting Republicans on this front.
Maher said of the issue, “Of all the low-lying fruit that the Democrats just like hand the Republicans to win elections, that’s the one.
Kirk followed up, “It’s so funny — I joked around with my team the other day. I said, ‘Are they really going to just let us win every national election on this no men in female sports thing?’ Like, they can’t surrender on this one issue.”
Bill Maher did not agree with Kirk politically. But they could sit down and have a conversation.
Charlie Kirk was willing to go to places where countless people disagreed with him and have meaningful conversations. That's the kind of country America has been and always should be.
Now it's a place where you can get murdered in cold blood for it.
Something needs to change.
