Democrat Senator Refuses to Give Trump Any Credit for Fixing the Border

When Joe Biden was president, America's southern border was pure anarchy. He simply refused to do anything about it.

Six months into President Donald Trump's second term, the border is more secure than it has been in years, with illegal crossings at record lows.

This is clear from anyone with the slightest knowledge of it. But for Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, it's something he's completely willing to ignore.

In fact, he seems mad about it.

May 2025, saw a whopping 93% decrease in illegal immigration compared to May 2024.

But for Sen. Murphy, that doesn't seem to matter. He gives the Trump administration no credit.

“I don’t give them credit for that because border crossings are low because they’re violating the law every day," Murphy told “Meet The Press” host Kristen Welker on Sunday. "So we have a law in this country that says if you are fleeing terror or torture from another country, you can come here and apply for asylum."

Murphy said Trump suspended the asylum process and has prevented individuals from seeking refuge in the U.S. He also claimed that there are bipartisan moves in Congress to reform the asylum process to ensure that only those who qualify can apply.

“The Trump administration has suspended that law," Murphy said. "They are not allowing anybody to come here to apply for asylum. We wrote that bipartisan bill last year to reform the asylum process, to make sure that only the right people are coming in and that we judge those cases expeditiously at the border.

Last year, congressional members of both parties crafted a bill to reform the asylum process, that would make the process more efficient while protecting refugees fleeing persecution. 

Murphy continued, “It’s true, there are very few people crossing on a daily basis, but that’s because the Trump administration is violating the law. And it should matter to every American that on so many facets, the Trump administration doesn’t care about the law."

“This is becoming a lawless administration," he added. "We are on a road to see our democracy after feats of the point that it will be unrecognizable. And the border is just one example of many ways in which this administration doesn’t care about the law anymore.”

At no point did Murphy give the Trump administration a smidgen of credit for reducing border crossings.

So thank you, Sen. Chris Murphy, for reminding Americans, once again, that the Democratic Party doesn't care one bit about securing America's borders.
