Democrats Block Pay for Troops During Government Shutdown AGAIN

On Thursday, Democratic senators blocked a defense spending bill from being considered that would allow military members to be paid during the government shutdown.

This was not the first time Democrats have done this throughout this shutdown.

Senators voted 50 to 44 on the defense funding bill. To advance, the bill needed 60 votes.

Only three Democrats defied Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and voted for the bill.

This bill would have funded the Department of War for the coming fiscal year, making sure active duty troops are paid and it also included a pay raise for military members.

Military payments would have stopped on Wednesday if not for President Trump using Pentagon funding to temporarily continue it.

But what happens come November, which is what the bill Democrats denied on Thursday addressed?

Senate Majority Leader John Thune slammed Democrats, “After voting last week for an authorization bill to increase troop pay, Democrats just voted against the bill that would actually pay the troops."

Thune continued, “They’re happy to sacrifice any American and evidently any principle to their political goals."

"Democrats like to position themselves as the party of the little guy and the defender of hard-working Americans, but as this vote makes clear, who do Democrats really care about?," he added.

Are the Democrats really going to continue to do this?

Actually BLOCK the pay of the men and women who serve in our military?

This is insane.

Sen. Thune said on MSNBC Thursday, “At some point, reasonable Democrats are going to have to come to the conclusion that this doesn’t benefit anybody."

He added, “I don’t believe government shutdowns benefit anybody, and that used to be a position that was held by the Democrat leadership.”

"Used to" is the operative part.
