After a second assassination attempt was carried out against Donald Trump, former CNN analyst Chris Cillizza posted a video criticizing media figures and others who appeared to downplay these incidents.
He made his remarks in a video on his YouTube channel.
“I think it is so stupid and counterproductive to spend time trying to downplay the fact that … two times there have been people trying to kill him over the last 90 days," Cillizza said. "We are not a country in which political violence can be condoned."
Secret Service fired on and arrested a man on Sunday who had been outside the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach who had a semi-automatic rifle. Though he wasn't able to fire shots, he was said to have pointed his rifle at Trump while he was playing golf.
Trump survived an assassination attempt on July 13th during a campaign rally in Butler Township, Pennsylvania.
Who was to blame for this? According to a lot of mainstream news outlets...
Blame Trump!
Cillizza said even for Democrats who believe Trump incited the January 6, 2021 riots on Capitol Hill, downplaying these attempts on Trump's life were absurd.
"And just because Donald Trump helped incite Jan. 6 does not make two wrongs equal a right, right?” Cillizza said. “We need to be better than that — not the same or worse. It is a bad thing that twice in 90 days the nominee of one of the two major parties was the victim or the focus of an attempted assassination, period.”
The former CNN analyst said that political violence in any context is always wrong.
“Political violence is wrong, period, whether it’s against Donald Trump or anyone else. And yes, the attempt at political violence, even if this guy on Sunday didn’t fire any shots is wrong, period,” Cillizza said..
He continued, “I just think there is so much as it comes to Donald Trump that is legitimate for criticism, for dislike and for a vote against that when you spend your time mired in these waters, you are doing a disservice, not just to yourself but to who we are as a people and to our democracy."
"So just stop doing it. Leave it be," Cillizza insisted. "You beat him at the ballot box, you don’t beat him by violence or the threat of violence.”
Democrats like to deny the existence of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
But if you're dismissing or perhaps even cheering people trying to kill the president...
TDS is exactly what you have.
Good on Chris Cillizza - who is no conservative - for calling the Left out on this.
