President Donald Trump has been busy when it comes to fighting crime.
He has deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C., invoked Section 40 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to declare an emergency, and this week ordered an airstrike on a drug cartel vessel in the southern Caribbean.
Many Democrats have criticized Trump's decisions, including these efforts to fight crime.
But not Former Democratic National Committee Press Secretary Jose Aristimuno. Aristimuno praised Trump on Thursday for cracking down on crime during an interview on Fox News.
“Crime does not discriminate, does not look at color," Aristimuno said. "And when I mean color, I’m talking about red for Republicans and blue for Democrats. If they’re going to go out and kill you, they’re going to go kill you, plain and simple."
He continued, “So this has to stop. And I got to say, I commend the president with what he’s doing when it comes to crime. And I disagree with Trump in many things, by the way, but crime is not one of them.”
Aristimuno had more.
“And we know that drug usage is connected to crime," he shared. "So we see the countless amount of drugs that are coming in from Venezuela. And what the president is doing to stop that, to stop [Venezuelan dictator] Nicolas Maduro, the king of the drug cartels in Latin America, it gives me great pride."
The Democrat said his party should work with Trump on these kinds of issues.
Aristimuno said, “And those are the type of things that we can collaborate with the president. When it comes to thugs, when it comes to people like Nicolas Maduro, when it comes to crime in D.C. and Chicago, you have to act fast and you have to act swiftly.”
During a press conference in late August, D.C's Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser also showed some appreciation for the president's efforts to combat crime in her city.
Bowser said, “We greatly appreciate the surge of officers that enhance what MPD has been able to do in this city... for carjackings, the difference between this period, this 20-day period of this federal surge, and last year represents a 87 percent reduction in carjackings in Washington, D.C."
Trump has been so successful in curtailing crime, particularly in our nation's Capitol, that even some Democrats can no longer ignore it.
Kudos to them for being honest and giving credit where it's due.
And kudos to Donald Trump for getting it done.
