In a recent interview, former Democratic presidential candidate made a surprising admission.
“Trump was right” on border policy. “The problem is we [Democrats] should have been right.”
Kerry made his remarks during an interview with the BBC.
Despite Democrats calling the president a racist for years for wanting to secure the U.S.-Mexico border and to deport illegal aliens, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee and Barack Obama's former secretary of state now says that Donald Trump got it right on this issue all along.
Democrats “need to be talking about what Americans do care about,” Kerry told the BBC.
"Immigration," Kerry said. "I said this very directly to President Biden that I think the Democrats have missed on the issue of immigration for some years… They just allowed the border to continue to be sieged, under siege."
He continued, "The first thing any president should say — any president, or anybody in public life, is, ‘Without a border protected you don’t have a nation.’ I believe that. To define your nation, you have to have a border that means something."
A nation without borders isn't a nation. That sounds familiar.
Kerry went on, "And there’s a reason we have passports. There’s a reason we have visas. We have a system, and I wish President Biden had been heard more often saying, ‘Well I’m going to enforce the law.'"
The BBC interviewer then stopped Kerry, saying that Kerry's words will allow Trump to say he was right about the border issue.
“Well, he was right,” Kerry replied immediately.
Kerry went deeper. "The problem is we all should have been right," he lamented. "Everybody should have been right, doing the same thing, all moving in the same direction."
Polls have shown that immigration has been one of President Trump's strongest areas of approval.
It is so evident to so many Americans that the border has become much more secure under President Trump than it ever was under President Biden.
Almost everyone can see the positive results of the Trump administration's border and migrant policies.
Even John Kerry. Kudos for admitting it.
