During a segment on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' Thursday, a panel of progressive voters in the swing state Wisconsin were asked about Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the new Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
And they weren't happy about the process.
NBC political analyst Elise Jordan asked the group, "How do you feel about the process in which President Biden decided to not run for re-election?"
A man responded, “Well, it would have been nice if he made this decision a year ago so we could have had a primary and maybe decided who we want to replace him rather than just all flocking to Kamala Harris."
Another man said, “I think by trying to clear the field and ensure that it was going to be Biden and… not allow us to have an actual democratic primary process — I’m not saying I think Kamala Harris is going to lose, but I do think that we would have been benefited significantly if he had figured this out far sooner so there could have actually been more time to have an internal debate, have internal democracy within the party."
Clearly this was not going how MSNBC likely expected.
Jordan asked the group about their perception of Harris and also their enthusiasm for her candidacy.
“I don’t feel like I know a lot about her," one man said. "And I agree that I wish Biden had come to this decision sooner, but now that we are where we are, I think that’s the best option for the party.”
A woman said, “I feel activated. I don’t like the process either. This whole, we started the conversation with like there are people behind closed doors and curtains making the decisions for us, and it’s supposed to be a process."
“We’re supposed to be part of it. So that part I don’t like on principle," she added. "That being said, she’s the vice president, and we’re late in the game, and therefore we would’ve elected her into office by electing Biden, and therefore she’s there. She would have been president had he went to office and something happened, God forbid."
There are clearly mixed emotions and signals on the Left about the process in which Harris was chosen.
Even far-left Black Lives Matter voiced outrage at the process in a lengthy tweet.
Obviously the Left is in more disarray over this than the establishment press would like to admit.
Former adviser to Bill Clinton, Doug Schoen, expressed a similar sentiment on Tuesday, saying, “I have trouble with the process that was put in place to very quickly rubber stamp her nomination. No mini primary, no open convention.“
"Basically, the deal was done in 48 hours," Schoen added. "I have a problem with that.”
It will be interesting to see how many would-be Democrat voters might have a problem with it too come Election Day.
Because Republicans held a primary and chose their presidential nominee democratically.
The party with "democratic" in their name did not.
For Joe Biden or, now, Kamala Harris...ouch.
Kamala wasn't appointed, she was anointed by a select elite. And she stole Biden's donations.
