'Not a Threat to Democracy': Chris Cuomo Slams Dems Who Claim Trump Will Be 'Dictator'

Imagine a president who weaponized the legal system against his opponents, tried to get him thrown off ballots and even censored his own people's speech?

That would make him a dictator, right?

But enough about Joe Biden.

Democrats never tire of saying that if Donald Trump is re-elected, he will become a dictator.

Never mind that this didn't happen the first time.

No, Democrats now say that Project 2025 - which Trump says he hasn't even read and disavows - is their proof that he will definitely become a dictator.

Chris Cuomo thinks Democrats who believe this are ridiculous - and he's telling them so.

“Donald Trump is not a threat to democracy," Cuomo said on his News Nation program on Thursday.

He continued, "Project 2025, it’s conservative values — like them, don’t like them. Unitary executive, giving a president more power, it’s not the same as making him a despot or a dictator, okay? Getting rid of the Department of Education — I don’t like the idea, it’s not destroying democracy, and the distinction matters."

“Neither is a threat to changing America’s institutions. I don’t believe that," Cuomo said. "But Project 2025 says he wants to replace the bureaucracy with his own people. Yeah, it’s also not going to happen. And even if it did, it wouldn’t destroy the institution, it would just put a bunch of people in there.”

It's worth noting that after the second assassination attempt against Trump, Cuomo called to apologize for contributing to the political environment that might have resulted in the former president being shot.

Cuomo wasn't finished in demonstration that Trump was not a dictator during his first term and is highly unlikely to become one in his second term, if he wins in November.

Cuomo went on, “And, by the way, he could barely fill his judgeships. He barely staffed his administration. Go back and look how many open places there were. They’ll say, ‘Oh, we reduced the size of government.’ No, you were inept at hiring. It’s harder to do than saying it."

"So I don’t believe in the threat,” he added.

Cuomo was clear in his apology to Trump that he does not regret criticizing him and believes leaders deserve scrutiny - and they certainly do - but the Left continuing to call Trump a would-be dictator, or Hitler or worse does nothing but create a more toxic political environment.

Good on Chris Cuomo for showing some grace, such a rarity in his field.
