NYC Socialist Mamdani Won't Call on Hamas to Disarm and Surrender Power

Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani would not say, as part of President Donald Trump's peace deal, that Hamas should disarm and lose their governing power.

Part of the Trump-led agreement is that Hamas must disarm and surrender control of Gaza.

The self-described socialist Mamdani's comments - or lack of - took place during an interview with Fox News' Martha MacCallum.

MacCallum asked him point blank, “Do you believe that Hamas should lay down their weapons and leave the leadership in Gaza?”

Mamdani replied, “I believe that any future here in New York City is one that we have to make sure that’s affordable for all"

“And as it pertains to Israel and Palestine that we have to ensure that there is peace," he added. "And that is the future we have to fight for.”

Since he didn't answer, MacCallum asked Mamdani again.

“But you won’t say that Hamas should lay down their arms and give up leadership in Gaza?” MacCallum asked.

The Democrat mayoral candidate replied, “I don’t have opinions about the future of Hamas and Israel beyond the question of justice and safety and the fact that anything has to abide by international law.”

Mamdani continued, “And that applies to Hamas, that applies to the Israeli military. It applies to anyone you could ask me about.”

On Tuesday, President Trump addressed the issue of Hamas disarming to a reporter.

“Well, they’re going to disarm, because they said they were going to disarm," Trump said.

He added, "And if they don’t disarm, we will disarm them.”

“They know I’m not playing games,” the president insisted.

This should have been an easy answer for any American politician of any party: Hamas should disarm and lose power.

It's that simple. That Zohran Mamdani still couldn't answer this question is telling.
