POLL: 66 Percent of Democrats Have a Positive View of Socialism

A new Gallup poll shows that while Americans overall like capitalism more than socialism, Democrats in particular have a different view.

According to Gallup's latest poll, only 42 percent of Democrats view capitalism favorably, while 66 percent have a positive view of socialism.

This comes in the wake of not only the popularity among Democrats of self described socialists like Senator Bernie Sanders and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but Zohran Mamdani, the also self-described democratic socialist who just won the Democratic primary in the race for New York City mayor.

The New York Post's Ryan King notes that this trend is primarily a Democrat thing.

"Americans’ approval of capitalism has plunged to a record low, while their support for socialism has ticked up slightly in recent years, a new Gallup poll shows," King writes.

":Only 54% of U.S. adults surveyed said they have a positive image of capitalism, the lowest level Gallup has recorded since it began asking the question 15 years ago."

"That’s down sharply from 60% support in 2021," he said.

"Their support of socialism has meanwhile grown slightly recently, from 38% in 2021 to 39% in 2025. Despite the small uptick, a majority of Americans still view socialism negatively, at 57%."

Given socialism's awful track record anywhere it has been tried, only 57 percent of Americans seeing it negatively is far too low.

How anyone could support socialism today after how badly it has failed worldwide for decades is mind boggling.

Democrats are in a bad spot. If they believe socialism is a winning brand, that could only make things worse for them.
