San Francisco is Purging History
A San Francisco district is planning to strip Abraham Lincoln from the name of a school because the former president did not demonstrate that 'black lives mattered to him'.
Yes, you read that right. The 16th president of the United States, the man who signed the Emancipation Proclamation, the Commander-in-chief who led America through the Civil War did not care about black lives according to a renaming committee in San Francisco.
Jeremiah Jeffries, chairman of the committee and a first-grade teacher, said: “Lincoln, like the presidents before him and most after, did not show through policy or rhetoric that Black lives ever mattered to them outside of human capital and as casualties of wealth building.”
The committee is expected to recommend renaming 44 school sites in January, which will also include an alternative name chosen by Jeffries and the other members.
School communities will have an opportunity to suggest a new name this month.
Meanwhile, the committee ruled that legendary labor leader, community organizer, and Latino American civil rights activist César Chávez can keep his name on César Chávez Elementary. This despite the fact that Chávez made repeated derogatory comments about undocumented immigrants and called for their deportation.
Chavez also encouraged members of his union to join what he called 'wet lines' to stop undocumented immigrants from crossing the border from Mexico to Arizona.
Also getting the ax from the committee are Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Herbert Hoover, Theodore Roosevelt, James Madison, James Garfield, James Monroe, and William McKinley. Some other notable names that will be removed from schools are Thomas Edison, Paul Revere, and Francis Scott Key.
If we haven't reached peak stupidity as a society we are certainly inching closer and closer to it. These are sad times and a perfect example of why kids nowadays have no appreciation for the men and women who built the country they live in now. Our teachers are failing them.
