Scott Jennings: 'Trump Effectively Closed the Southern Border Just By Taking Office'

As many continue to analyze the first 100 days of Donald Trump's second term, CNN's Scott Jennings highlighted on Monday what he believes to be the president's "best issue."

Border security.

Jennings said this despite a recent CNN poll showing that a majority of Americans disapproved of Trump's handling of illegal immigration, with 45 percent approving and 54 percent disapproving.

When he took office to begin his second term, Trump signed executive orders targeting illegal immigration, designating Mexican cartels and gangs as terrorist groups, and has expedited the deportation of criminal illegal immigrants by invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

Jennings said Trump is responsible for the “the biggest cleanup job” that was America's broken southern border.

Jennings said, “I actually think it‘s still their best issue, and I think when it all shakes out, what are they going to be able to say? Donald Trump effectively closed the southern border just by taking office and changing the attitude of the federal government.”

He continued, “They have deported lots of violent criminals, and frankly, they are sending a different message than the previous administration, you know, the old way was, ‘Hey, just get here and we’ll find a way and it will probably work out for you.’ The new message is, ‘Don’t come here. Please don’t come here.’ And now people know that we mean it.”

Jennings firmly believes this issue is a major positive for the President.

“When it all shakes out. I think we’re going to find that Donald Trump inherited — the biggest mess of all was on immigration,” Jennings explained. “He had the biggest cleanup job to do on it, and he ultimately did what he had to do to bring order to it."

"I still think it’s their best issue," he added. "I still think they’re going to lean into it. And obviously, it’s the issue that motivated his campaign way back in 2015, in the first place, and he stuck with it all the way through."

"I still think it’s their number one issue” Jennings finished.

In March, it was reported that the number of "gotaways" - illegal aliens who make it into the U.S. - had one down 95 percent under Trump.

The New York Post reported, "Each day, border agents are spotting an average of 77 illegal migrant “gotaways,” according to Fox News. Border Patrol agents use surveillance cameras or other surveillance methods to track such crossings."

"During the height of the border crisis under the Biden administration, an average of more than 1,800 illegal migrant gotaways were recorded sneaking through each day," the Post noted.

That's one hell of a drop.

Citing stats like this, it's easy to see how the Democrats might be losing the battle on this issue, despite one poll.

Americans voted for Trump in part because they were tired of essentially having no southern border.

Donald Trump did instantly bring a vastly better security to the country by merely taking office and doing his basic duties as President.

That's literally all it took. Sad, but true.
