Socialist NYC Mayor-Elect Mamdani Appoints Anti-Police Professor to 'Community Safety'

When New York City elected open socialist Zohran Mamdani as its next mayor, many wondered - and worried - what that meant for the city and its future.

One of the mayor-elect's first decisions? To appoint an anti-police university professor to serve on his "community safety" committee.

Who else did you expect a socialist to pick?

Brooklyn College sociology professor Alex Vitale has described police officers as “violence workers," the “natural enemy” of the working class, has supported defunding law enforcement and has called the

New York Police Department in particular “racist, anti-queer and a major threat to public safety.”

Vitale's 2017 book “The End of Policing” argues that the “problem is not police training, police diversity, or police methods. The problem is policing itself.”

In an interview about his book in 2020, Vitale said, “The whole point is they’re violence workers. You can’t train them not to be violence workers.”

For Vitale, there is no such thing as police reform. He believes law enforcement needs to be eradicated.

Similar to his DEI-driven, woke socialist boss, Vitale has said that the “institution of policing exists historically to facilitate racial inequality… emerging out of colonialism, slavery, and industrial capitalism.”

Vitale will become part of about 400 advisors serving on multiple committees as Mamdani becomes mayor in January.

Mamdani said on Monday, “A love for hard work, a deep belief in the promise of New York City, and a commitment to the affordability agenda that New Yorkers are demanding unite the more than 400 experts we have appointed to our Transition Committees today."

He continued, "By helping us recruit top talent and develop smart policy, these committees will be instrumental to ensuring we hit the ground running on January 1st — and that our results align with the promises we’ve made.”

The "results" of Vitale's committee input will be interesting to see - to say the least.

Mamdani has supported defunding the police in the past but now claims he longer holds that position.

He has apologized for that stand and also disparaging remarks he once made about the NYPD, now saying, “I apologize because of the fact that I’m looking to work with these officers, and I know that these officers, these men and women who serve in the NYPD, they put their lives on the line every single day.”

That is a fine statement, but doesn't jibe well with appointing a clearly anti-cop person to help oversee "community safety."

Again, New York City is about to have its first socialist mayor, and this bizarre choice to work with law enforcement - a person who obviously hates law enforcement - is but a small preview of what that might look like.
