A nearly 3,000-foot long drug smuggling tunnel that went under the US-Mexico border was recently discovered by United States border agents, and was shutdown.
The tunnel ran from Tijuana to San Diego. It was first discovered in early April, and was actively under construction.
It is BIG.
The New York Post reported, "The underground passageway ran under part of the Otay Mesa Port of Entry and had a projected exit point near or inside a commercial warehouse space in San Diego, according to an announcement from US Customs and Border Protection."
"Upon entering the 'highly sophisticated' tunnel, authorities were met with barricades seemingly placed to prevent law enforcement from finding its entrance, the announcement noted," according to the Post, adding that, "The tunnel — which reached depths of around 50 feet underground at its deepest point — measured 2,918 feet long, 42 inches tall and 28 inches wide."
That's pretty massive, and could potentially be used for more than drug smuggling.
One commenter on X noted that this could have also been an entrance to the U.S. for terrorists.
Border Patrol agents found electrical wiring and lighting in the tunnel and a "track system" which could move large amounts of narcotics.
The San Diego entrance to the tunnel was discovered in April, but the Tijuana entrance was only found on Monday. It was hidden by piles of tile.
It will now be filled with concrete.
Two questions jump out.
Would this tunnel and potentially other drug running tunnels have been found if Joe Biden or Kamala Harris were still president?
Isn't this another positive to finally having a president who believes in securing the borders?
Both questions answer themselves.
