The One Area Where Even This Far-Left Democrat Thinks Mamdani Goes to Far

Zohran Mamdani is the mayor-elect of New York City. He ran on an openly socialist platform.
Mamdani was endorsed by hard-left Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna of California.
Yet Rep. Khanna recently told the New York Post that he disagrees with Mamdani on one key thing. That thing happened to be arguably the position that stood out in Mamdani's campaign most.
"Lefty California Rep. Ro Khanna has told the Post that socialist New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is too radical even for him on at least one major issue — his commie economics," the story reads.
But this guy called himself a socialist and campaigned as one!
More, "Khanna, a self-described 'progressive capitalist,' said in an exclusive interview Monday that Mamdani went too far by expressing support for 'seizing the means of production' as recently as 2021 and claimed he 'strongly disagreed' with the notion."
Mamdani used this Marxist phrase four years ago during a panel hosted by the Democratic Socialists of America.

Mamdani said at the time, when he was a newly elected state assemblyman, "But then there are also other issues that we firmly believe in, whether it's BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions of Israel), right, or whether it's the end goal of seizing the means of production, where we do not have the same level of support at this very moment."
This is classic socialism. The Mamdani campaign claimed that this position was not part of his agenda. A Mamdani spokesperson said back then, "There is nothing in his platform or in his record regarding seizing the means of production."
But again, this is basic socialism 101. "Seizing the means of production." And Mamdani has proudly called himself a socialist throughout.
This doesn't add up.
It's kind of rich for Khanna to endorse the socialist and then say he disagrees with the socialist part.
The Post noted, "Mamdani’s platform focused on issues of affordability and the economy, with campaign promises to subsidize government-run grocery stores, freeze rents and cover bus fares for New Yorkers — all while raising taxes on corporations by up to 11.5% annually."
Sounds pretty socialist. Will private grocery stores still be allowed to exist? We might find out, unfortunately.
Some New Yorkers are bracing for the worst.
This will be terrible for New Yorkers but it could also be a silver lining for the rest of the country heading into 2026: We will all be able to see what happens in the real world when socialist policies are implemented.
And the rest of America will likely want nothing to do with it.
Sorry Ro Khanna. You endorsed a socialist, who said he was a socialist and who will now attempt to govern as such.
Say a prayer for the Big Apple.

Too far, not “to”.
