Trump Eliminates 'Bureaucratic Bloat' in the Department of Education

On Tuesday night, Department of Education employees were told to stay home on Wednesday.

Then almost half of them were fired.

President Donald Trump has said he will abolish the Department of Education, and according to Education Department Secretary Linda McMahon, this was step one in doing precisely that.

McMahon confirmed this in an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham on Tuesday night.

Ingraham asked McMahon if this was the just the first step in a complete shutdown of the department.

“Actually, it is, because that was the president’s mandate,” McMahon said. “His directive to me, clearly, is to shut down the Department of Education, which we know we’ll have to work with Congress, you know, to get that accomplished.”

McMahon continued, “But what we did today was to take the first step of eliminating what I think is bureaucratic bloat, and that’s not to say that a lot of the folks — you know, it’s a humanitarian thing to a lot of the folks that are there. … They’re out of a job."

“But we wanted to make sure that we kept all of the right people and the good people to make sure that the outward-facing programs, she added. "The grants, the appropriations that come from Congress, all of that are being met, and none of that’s going to fall through the cracks."

Whoa. This is a big first step and they are not even finished yet.

People were definitely excited.

Trump is finally the president to do this.

Getting it done.

The president said many of these employees weren't even working.
