Former President Barack Obama recently gave his own party a talking to.
Obama told Democrats they needed to stop "navel-gazing" and "whining" and that they should probably "toughen up" in their battles with President Donald Trump.
Some might consider this sound and much needed advice for Democrats.
Not Whoopi Goldberg.
The View co-host scolded Obama on Tuesday for daring to say that Democrats had bad messaging. Mark Cuban had made remarks similar to Obama's, so Goldberg included him in her rant as well.
Goldberg said both men were “pointing the finger at the wrong person."
“So, let me remind everybody who was out on the frontlines marching when we had the giant marches that went on,” Goldberg said. “It was the people. The people went out. They were not navel-gazing, it was older people who were saying ‘why are you touching my Social Security?’ It was not people whining, it was about people saying ‘why are you taking these rights from my child when my child was born here?'"
Goldberg continued, "This has not been about Democrats lying back, this has been about y’all. This has been about y’all, because their messaging was always the same. Democrats have been angry about what this man tried to do the last time, and they’re angry this time."
"So, with much due respect to [Obama and Cuban], I believe you are pointing the finger at the wrong person when you say Democrats," she added.
Goldberg's co-host Ana Navarro weighed in to say, “And yeah, okay, so some of us say that Donald Trump sucks. He does suck! And it feels good to say it."
So what were Whoopi and company doing here? Whining. Navel-gazing.
Doing exactly the kinds of things Obama warned them against. His message went completely over their heads.
Obama said at an event on Friday, “It’s going to require a little bit less navel-gazing and a little less whining and being in fetal positions. And it’s going to require Democrats to just toughen up.”
Maybe. But don't look for that in Whoopi Goldberg.
She doesn't even want to hear it.
