Could We See a Trump-Donalds Ticket?

Updated: Feb 23

Rep. Byron Donalds X

Donald Trump said recently that he has a shortlist of possible running mates.

One of them is Byron Donalds.

That would be one of the strongest tickets conservatives could hope for.

Trump recently confirmed that his short list for vice presidential contenders include former primary rivals Sen. Tim Scott, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis,  plus South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.

AND Congressman Byron Donalds.

There are conservative Republicans who might do a few good things and then there are thoroughly conservative Republicans who almost do nothing but good things.

Donalds belongs in that latter camp.

From border security, to cutting government and spending, to taking on leadership - Donalds belonged to the group of GOP members who ousted Kevin McCarthy - Donalds is exactly who conservatives would want in Trump's ear if he is elected president again in November.

Which at the moment looks like a real possibility according to most polls.

Donalds already signaled he would take the job. He's a longtime vocal supporter of Trump.

From The Hill in November:

“Would you accept the vice presidential nomination if he offered it to you?” guest host Elliot Williams asked the Florida lawmaker on SiriusXM’s “The Julie Mason Show.”
“I mean, who wouldn’t?” Donalds answered.
The Florida lawmaker had previously appeared to leave the door open to the possibility, saying last month that “that’s really up to the president...” Donalds was among a number of House Republicans who tried for the Speakership after the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the top slot in October.
“I think that for me, it’s about wanting to save this country. I’m here to help and get the job done. … I’m a Republican. I’m very conservative. But this is not about a Republican-Democrat thing,” Donalds said Thursday when asked about the possibility of accepting the vice presidential nomination.

Donalds added,“So, if that’s something that’s open to me, would I do that? Yeah, I would, because I want to do everything possible to help get our country on track."

At the very least, we know the possibility is open to him according to Trump just recently.

That list has many people who would make great running mates. But there's just something extra special - and extra conservative - about Byron Donalds.
