Illegal Jose Ibarra is Charged with Murder. Remember When Republicans Wanted to Allow 5,000 Ibarras a Day?

Clarke County Sheriff/GoFundMe

Venezuelan national Jose Antonio Ibarra has been charged with the murder of 22-year-old coed Laken Riley.

Ibarra was in the United States illegally and could have been deported last year after an immigration bust in New York.

Instead he was allowed to go free.

An illegal immigrant - that the authorities knew was illegal - he was just allowed to re-enter the population.

And now he's allegedly murdered a young nursing student who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That's bad enough. But think about this: Remember in the original border security bill earlier this month concocted by Republican and Democratic leadership - they were willing to allow 5,000 illegal immigrants like Ibarra to go free in the U.S.

EACH DAY.

That's an insane idea.

But it is exactly what Republicans originally proposed.

More on Ibarra from the New York Post, "Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, who is facing murder charges in the death of the 22-year-old coed on Thursday, had been arrested in Queens on Aug. 31 and charged with endangering a child, but immigration officials said he was no longer in NYPD custody by the time they got word of the bust."

The story continued:

He was released by the NYPD before a detainer could be issued,” a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman said in a statement to The Post on Monday. “On Feb. 23, 2024, [Enforcement and Removal Operations] Atlanta encountered Ibarra pursuant to him being arrested by the University of Georgia Police Department and charged with murder and other crimes.”
The agency said a detainer has been filed against Ibarra in Georgia — albeit tragically too late for Riley.
Police said the bubbly nursing student went for a jog in a wooded area on the University of Georgia campus when she was attacked and killed shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Ibarra was arrested the following day and is being held without bail.
The accused killer entered the US illegally in El Paso, Texas, on Sept. 8, 2022, with his wife and her son seeking asylum, and was later released “for further processing,” ICE said.
He wound up in New York City, where he worked in food delivery and at an unnamed restaurant.
On Aug. 31, cops allegedly spotted him riding a scooter in Queens with his 5-year-old stepson on board — with the child not wearing a safety helmet or required child restraints, according to police.
Ibarra was charged with a felony and released.

Multiple times Ibarra was caught by authorities, who knew he was in the country illegally, and multiple times he was released - decisions that ultimately led to ending an innocent young woman's life.

Every illegal immigrant is not a potential murderer. But that is not the point.

The point of having secure borders - which is necessary for the existence of any nation - is to have an idea of who is in your country. You want to know their background, what kind of work they're seeking, if they have a record, if they pose a potential threat.

Knowingly allowing 5,000 illegals per day is absolutely insane. These are migrants you know nothing about. There are zero background checks. A basic law of averages tells you that at least some of them might be dangerous people, something Ms. Riley unfortunately had to experience in the worst way imaginable.

She should have been protected, at a minimum, by the U.S. having a competent immigration system.

So just remember when you're reading about this tragedy and the case of Jose Antonio Ibarra, that while it's beyond absurd that this illegal immigrant was allowed to remain in the country - multiple times - the Republican Party recently introduced legislation that would have allowed 5,000 Ibarras PER DAY.

There is no defense or excuse for that kind of dereliction of duty.

EVER.
