How Joe Biden chose to end America's longest war will forever be a stain on our country's history. The words that continue to come from this president and his administration continue to insult our intelligence.
Here are the 7 most absurd comments Team Biden has made about Afghanistan.
1. Biden says withdrawal couldn't have been handled better
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos asked President Biden, “So, you don’t think this could have been handled — this exit could have been handled better in any way, no mistakes?”
Biden replied, “No. I don’t think it could have been handled in a way that — we’re going to go back in hindsight and look — but the idea that somehow, there’s a way to have gotten out without chaos ensuing, I don’t know how that happens.”
“I don’t know how that happened,” Biden added.
Former Vice President says in an op-ed that it "happened" because Biden ignored the set May 1 withdrawal date that was part of the Trump administration's deal with the Taliban.
In trying to do a Biden withdrawal as opposed to following Trump's original plan, Biden likely made American withdrawal far worse.
2. Biden claims no military official told him the U.S. should keep a small contingent of troops
Stephanopoulos asked Biden, "Your military advisors did not tell you, no, we should just keep 2,500 troops; it's been a stable situation for the last several years?"
Biden: "No, no one said that to me that I can recall."
There is almost zero percent chance this is true. Does anyone believe this? Even Biden?
3. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said in July that Afghan forces are capable of defending their country
On July 21, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said that Afghan forces were prepared to fight the Taliban.
"The strategic momentum seems to be with the Taliban, but the Afghan security forces are consolidating their forces to protect population centers," Milley said. "They are adjusting forces to consolidate forces into the provincial capitals and Kabul."
"It remains to be seen what will happen," Milley added. "I don't think the endgame is yet written."
We now see what happened. The endgame is written. And the Afghan forces our military spent two decades training were completely worthless.
4. Biden says Afghan forces were capable of fighting in early July
During a July 8 press conference, Biden gave the Afghan forces his vote of confidence and even said, “We are not going to walk away and not maintain the ability to save that force."
We have walked away. The Afghan army is a joke.
Watch the video of progressive journalist Glenn Greenwald dismantling most of what Biden said in that press conference, which the Pulitzer prize-winning reporters bluntly calls "lies."
5. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says the U.S. military can't rescue Americans still in Afghanistan
When Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was asked if the U.S, military could help American citizens still stuck in Afghanistan, he replied, "We don't have the capability to go out and collect a large number of people."
"The forces we have are focused on security of the airfield." Austin added. "I don't want to detract from that."
UM... We just spent 20 years trying to turn Afghanistan into a more free and democratic country. Obviously that did not work out, despite many presidents, politicians and military officials promising us the U.S. was making "progress."
But now that the country has gone to hell and Americans are trapped in Kabul and other cities, our military isn't capable of rescuing them?
This task seems more doable than the entire mission in Afghanistan the last two decades. It is also seems like the kind of thing our military is meant for - protecting U.S. citizens - more than nation building.
6. Team Biden said they planned for 'every contingency'
CLEARLY THEY DIDN'T!
7. Biden taking no questions and turning his back on Americans trapped in Afghanistan
The most absurd - and immoral - moment Biden had recently regarding Afghanistan was to address the nation, then turn around and walk away.
The president did this while Americans scared for their lives remain in Afghanistan.
Biden gave his speech, then took no questions at a time when so many Americans needed answers more than any other event Biden has spoke at in his life.
We needed leadership. Biden just left.
FIRE AUSTIN & MILLEY!
