Uncancelling Cancelled Culture
Cracker Barrel thought it could quietly retire its Old Country Store logo for a bland, soulless design. The new design didn't include the familiar figure, Uncle Herschel, with his barrel. What remained looked like something you might find at an airport food court. It had no charm. The backlash was immediate. Loyal customers pushed back. President Trump even urged the company to “admit a mistake,” and they did and restored the old logo. Cracker Barrel's stock climbed on the news. We are uncancelling cancelled culture.
This was not just a branding dispute. It was a cultural course correction. For years, corporations have rushed to discard their heritage in the name of modernization, often under pressure from activists or consultants. The result has been the slow erasure of tradition in favor of something sterile and forgettable. Cracker Barrel tried it and got burned.
What happened next should encourage us all. The people still have the power to be heard, and when they push back, even major companies must listen. Cracker Barrel’s reversal is proof that tradition resonates more deeply than trend, and that common sense still wins when the silent majority refuses to stay silent.
