The Maps That Never Were
The Virginia Supreme Court just dealt a massive blow to the Democrats midterm plans. In a 4-3 ruling, the court held that Virginia violated its Constitution in the process of holding the referendum that would have given Democrats 4 more seats in the House.
The Democrats that came out with full-throated support of Virginia’s gerrymandering efforts are busy washing the egg off their faces, as Republicans continue to pass new maps in states like Tennessee, Florida, Texas, and more. Pay attention to which states get their maps across the finish line, and which don’t have the will to use political power to win elections.
Republicans have an uphill battle in the midterms, but redistricting maps across the country to balance against the maximally-blue lines that Democrats draw in their strongholds is a must to keep the House. The Republican Senate majority has been useless, but if we lose the House, President Trump’s last two years will be held up worse than it is now.
