Just last week, Whoopi Goldberg was arguing that if America's education system was broken, that just meant we had to "suck it up" and pay more in taxes.
On Tuesday, she said the opposite: That the Department of Education should be abolished so that parents can go to the states for help.
'The View' host was essentially saying education that is closer to the state and local level might be preferable to having the federal government involved.
PRECISELY the argument that conservatives have made since the department was created under President Jimmy Carter in 1979.
This is President Trump's position!
Whoopi said to her co-hosts who looked confused, "They are trying to take apart the Department of Education."
“Maybe that is a good thing,” she said. “Because maybe it will force us to make sure our kids actually get what they need.”
Yes, again, this is Whoopi Goldberg saying this.
She continued, “I want to make sure, since you’re taking all this money from my taxes, I want to make sure that my kids get exactly what they need.”
“This is now in our hands,” Goldberg explained. “It’s going to be tough, and nobody wants to do it, because it’s a b****, but you know what, if it comes down to your survival, this is what you got to do.”
After she finished, Goldberg said, “They’re telling me that we’re going to be right back.”
The show then cut to commercial.
People definitely noticed what she said.
Is Whoopi going to get canceled now?
The newest homeschool advocate?
Is this real?
BOMBSHELL
A moment.
What Whoopi said about education and the relationship between students, parents and the authorities closest to them - in this case, state over federal - is basic common sense.
But it is a position that has been constantly vilified on the Left, and on 'The View' in particular. Abolishing the Department of Education is an attempt to improve education, not harm it.
It's good to see at least one member of this program come to her senses on this issue.
How long this might last is anyone's guess.
