Gaetz Takes Action: Requests Salary Hold Amid Funding Debate

ree

Florida's GOP Representative Matt Gaetz addressed a letter on Tuesday to Catherine Szpindor, the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. House of Representatives, asking for his salary to be withheld until the government secures funding.

This move comes as the government is on the brink of a shutdown, with a deadline looming at midnight on Sunday, October 1st, 2023. Gaetz has consistently asserted that the House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, should pass individual appropriations bills to maintain government operations, rather than providing extensive funds to Ukraine.

In his letter, Gaetz states, “Given that the Constitution ensures members of Congress continue to receive their salary during any funding gap, I am formally asking that if there is a lapse in appropriations starting at 12:00 a.m. on October 1, 2023, my salary be retained until legislative measures are in place to resolve the funding lapse in its entirety.”
