Trump Fulfilling Another Campaign Promise - Abolishing the Department of Education:

The Department of Education (DOE) announced yesterday that they will be reducing their workforce by half, in what Secretary Linda McMahon called the agency's "final mission." The only functions the department will continue are those required by statute, delivering on grants, student loans, and limited other capacities. This is the first step in Trump fulfilling one of his campaign promises - to close the DOE and return the agency's powers back to the states and localities where it belongs.

For all the anger this move has elicited from the Left, their argument falls apart when you dig into the numbers. American education is the worst it's been in decades - over a quarter of American 12th graders are effectively illiterate. One in four students about to graduate high school and enter the workforce cannot read, and the numbers in other subjects aren't much better. Schools have prioritized DEI and woke garbage rather than, well, education for far too long and it's a safe bet to blame the massive federal agency in overseeing it all.

States that have fought back against DOE and blocked the top-down woke influence have fared far better - case in point, Florida is the top state in the country for education performance. If you're old enough to remember the dark ages of the Biden administration, you'll remember the Left attacking DeSantis for "book burning" and rooting DEI out of Florida schools. The picture is clear: states are better equipped to run their own education, federal standards lower national performance, and taxpayers are funneling money to corrupt bureaucrats that are hurting our children.

DOE makes up roughly 4% of the budget - taking in over $250 billion while education declines. There are a lot of moving parts on that number - some of it goes towards subsidizing student loans for colleges, grants, and other services to increase access to higher education. But these are functions that have made college less affordable in the long run. With the government guaranteeing a pot of money for students to borrow, universities have continued to raise tuition - not helping kids afford to go to school, but ensuring they can while straddling them with crippling sums of debt. Through and through, regardless of how much the teacher's union stomps its feet, abolishing DOE is better for everyone, especially students.

Dismantling the Department of Education Isn't Just Pragmatic, It's Constitutional:

Not only is getting rid of the Department of Education (DOE) better for everyone, it's the constitutional thing to do. Unless someone can point out where in Article II the Executive Branch was given the power to control states' schools, it's gotta go.

Trump plans on getting the federal government out of the education business altogether. There are many executive agencies, like DOE, that are similarly unconstitutional, ineffective, and wasting tax dollars while we run a historic deficit. Dismantling DOE is a substantial step in the right direction for the first time in a long time. Keep slashing, Mr. President. Apart from Randi Weingarten, Americans have no love lost for any bloated government agency, let alone the one that has overseen the collapse in the education of America's children.

Together, we're fighting for a smaller, more sensible government. Thank you for reading today's Cannon, we hope you'll join us in the fight - one post and share at a time!
