The Ghost of Harry Reid
The Senate Parliamentarian just dealt a huge blow to President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill. The bill is going through reconciliation, which means it bypasses the filibuster and needs 50, not 60, votes to pass the Senate. The catch? It can only touch mandatory spending because of the Byrd Rule - which is also why the DOGE cuts weren't able to be included in the package.
Elizabeth MacDonough, who was appointed by Democrat Harry Reid back in 2012, made big-time cuts across the board shredding the spending cuts Republicans worked to pass through the House.
The swamp is fighting back the with this one trick: have a swamp creature nobody has ever heard of dismantle the America-first agenda from the inside out.
An unelected bureaucrat appointed well over a decade ago by a since-deceased Democrat is undermining the agenda the American people voted for. If the Senate doesn't rewrite the bill to work around Elizabeth MacDonough, a big chunk of what Republicans have been fighting for is going to die in the halls of the Senate.
A better solution? Get rid of the ghost of Harry Reid that haunts the chamber.
Draining the Swamp Starts with Pulling the Plug on Swamp Creatures
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has the power to replace Elizabeth MacDonough as the Senate Parliamentarian. There is no good reason to keep her there. God rest his soul, but Harry Reid died four years ago and it's time his chokehold on Congress fades away, too.
We sent President Trump to the White House with a majority in both chambers of Congress to cut spending, cut taxes, secure the border, and implement the largest deportation program in history. There is no excuse to have the America-first agenda hamstrung by a woman nobody outside of Washington, DC has ever heard of and that was put in her position seven congressional sessions ago.
Leader John Thune has already come out to say he won't fire or overrule MacDonough. That is a monumental mistake.
Are our leaders really going to tell us that we can't cut spending because an unelected bureaucrat says it isn’t Mandatory Spending? MacDonough slashed big reforms, like ending taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants and halting radical gender mutilation for children on the public dime, just to name a few. If the Senate doesn't act, the taxpayers will be required to fund insane programs like gender mutilation surgery for foreign national children.
When certified-RINO Dan Crenshaw says "THIS is a hill we should fight for," and conservative leaders across the Republican party agree, there is no reason for Sen. Thune to drag his feet. The political appetite is not only there, it's roaring. Draining the swamp starts with pulling the plug on Harry Reid's swamp pet.
If Leader Thune doesn't replace her with an America-first Parliamentarian, it will be a disgusting, self-inflicted wound on the Republican party. Without decisive leadership the chances of ever getting a balanced budget, mass deportations, the eradication of child mutilation, and energy dominance will be slim.
Thanks for reading this today's Cannon. The fight for America’s future continues — online, in Congress, and in culture.
