Karma's a Jimmy Kimmel

Earlier this week, self-described "comedian" and late night host Jimmy Kimmel spewed his thoughts about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Standing with plenty of confidence but no self-awareness, Kimmel opened by saying, "we had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them." Kimmel went on to mock President Trump saying, "this is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, okay?"

Kimmel's not alone, hosts and guests across the liberal media have spent the better part of a week trying to spin the assassination of Charlie Kirk as a MAGA problem, a both sides problem, or feigning ignorance to the onslaught of radical Leftist violence that has become far too prevalent across the country.

But ABC did something unexpected.

ABC fired Jimmy Kimmel and cancelled his show following these remarks and substantial backlash by conservatives online. It's not as simple as a host getting fired for comments, and it's not the same as cancel culture.

Cancel culture was institutional coordination to banish conservatives from public life for saying things that were true, things the Left don't like, or any number of political maneuvering. It's entirely different than firing Jimmy Kimmel for ghoulish comments about an assassinated public figure. Those attempting to make it a binary question between "free speech versus cancel culture" are off-base. Cancel culture came for the guilty along with the innocent. Firing someone for celebrating or dismissing an assassination is entirely different and it's time conservatives stop pretending otherwise.

The Kimmel firing is also a political bellwether. The cultural winds have shifted. Conservatism is cool again, it's mainstream again, and we have amassed enough clout to combat the vile, complete control the Left has had on the culture for the past decade. Conservatives aren't afraid anymore, and assassinating Charlie Kirk has awakened the silent majority. We can't lose our momentum now, we've only just begun winning.
