The Left Lies About the Filibuster
The SAVE America Act is with the Senate after the House passed the bill last week. The Senate is back in session on Monday, where Leader John Thune confirmed that the SAVE America Act will be voted on at some point.Â
The bill has over 50 Senators supporting it, but has not reached the 60 vote threshold to overcome the filibuster in its current form. Senator Mike Lee has been on a campaign to remind the nation that it doesn’t require the Senate to change its rules to restore the talking filibuster, which would require Senators to speak to delay cloture rather than holding up the bill with no effort.Â
Â
Leader Thune could do that on Monday.Â
Some critics are balking at the idea of restoring the talking filibuster - which was famously used to pass the Civil Rights Act in the 60s - because Democrats might do the same thing next time they’re in power. For anyone that forgot - Democrats were two votes away from abolishing the filibuster altogether last time they had power, and the two ‘no’ votes are no longer in the Senate.
Â
The SAVE America Act is must-pass legislation. There is no room for negotiation. Leader Thune and Senate Republicans need to pass the bill and pass it fast, by any means necessary or the GOP can kiss its midterm hopes goodbye.
