The Court Did Its Job, Republicans Need to do Theirs
The Supreme Court this week ruled in favor of Republicans in Louisiana v Callais. The 6-3 decision opens the door for a number of Republican states to begin redistricting efforts which will bolster the Republican majority.
Nearly 20 seats could be flipped from blue to red because of this ruling, seats that have been artificially kept as Democrat strongholds for years. Republican state legislatures and governors are going to have to get their acts together to implement new maps before the midterms, but a few states are well on their way.
Texas and Florida have maps already drawn, giving a combined 9-seat swing to Republicans. And while Democrats start the crocodile tears, it’s important to remember the tune they were singing just a week ago when Virginia's referendum potentially changed the state from 6-5 Democrat to 10-1. Virginia’s maps still need to have their day in court, but Republicans have already cleared that hurdle and just need the political will to deliver a massive boost to GOP chances in November.Â
