Jesus, Take the Wheel: Frankly My Dear, Netflix Is Doing Too Much

Nothing screams "trust the algorithm" quite like a streaming service pre-loading your opinions before you've even watched the movie.

Netflix doesn't even have the rights to stream "Gone with the Wind" right now, but it apparently had a placeholder page ready to go just in case -- and that page didn't just summarize the 1939 classic, it editorialized it. Users who stumbled onto the link this week found a synopsis that flagged the film as racist and nudged viewers toward information on Black Lives Matter. The page mysteriously stopped working later the same day.

Netflix's own placeholder page reportedly described the Civil War epic as racist and directed viewers to seek out Black Lives Matter.
"Gone with the Wind" is the best-selling movie ticket seller in American history, with an estimated 200 million-plus domestic admissions since 1939. It doesn't need a content warning from a streaming service that doesn't even carry it. It needs to be watched, understood as a product of its era, and left alone by editors who think 2026 gets a veto over 1939.
Jesus, take the wheel!
