Alright folks, buckle up—we are four days from another thrilling episode of "Government Shutdown Theater," and the House Republicans just dropped their Continuing Resolution (CR) game plan. This one keeps the lights on for another 204 days, providing some runway for Republicans to pass their Reconciliation and Recisions packages between now and October 1—just in time for the real showdown over government funding.

And would you look at that? Democrats are losing their minds.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is sending out emergency smoke signals (a.k.a. a whip notice) urging Democrats to VOTE NO. They’d rather shut the government down than give President Trump an inch of breathing room.

The CR: Not Perfect, But a Strategic Power Play

Now, let’s be honest—this CR isn’t the conservative dream bill. It doesn’t codify Trump’s executive orders, doesn’t slash spending, and doesn’t lock in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanently. But here’s what it does do:

It hands Trump more control over spending. The usual guardrails that Congress loves to slap on appropriations? Gone. That means DOGE has fewer legal obstacles as it hacks away at bureaucratic bloat.

It puts Democrats in an impossible position. If they block the CR, they own the shutdown—not exactly the PR victory they’re looking with midterms right around the corner.

It buys Trump the time he needs. The man has been back in office for barely a month, and he’s already flipping over the Swamp’s tables. This CR gives him the space to rebalance the economy, get the right players in place, and frame the policy debate on his terms.

This is why House Democrats are in full meltdown mode. They know that a few more months of Trump’s executive control over spending could mean hundreds of billions redirected away from their pet projects, kickbacks, and bureaucratic empires.

It’s all very telling.

Trump’s Take: Play the Long Game

President Trump has officially blessed the CR and is urging Republicans to vote YES. His message? “Give me a few months.”

We all want immediate spending cuts—believe me, we do. Trump is asking us for a little patience while he rebuilds, restructures, and rebalances the economy.

I detest CRs and believe they are the root of all evil. There is not a lazier form of lawmaking than a CR. We should be willing to be transactional with the President and his team and Congressional Republicans on this CR. And only this one CR.

Together, we're fighting for a smaller, more sensible government. Thank you for reading today's Cannon, we hope you'll join us in the fight - one post at a time!
