Clash of the Titans
President Trump and Elon Musk are locked in a fiery public spat, and it’s getting messy. Official sources initially portrayed Musk’s departure from DOGE as 'scheduled,' but Musk swiftly set the record straight on X, targeting Trump’s "One Big Beautiful Bill." Elon criticized it as too bloated and ineffective at solidifying DOGE cuts.
While I'm certainly no fan of Washington’s endless spending spree, we need to clarify: reconciliation packages can only address mandatory spending. Most DOGE cuts, sadly, fall into discretionary categories.
Things escalated quickly when Trump took to Truth Social, suggesting he might pull Musk’s government contracts and calling Elon 'CRAZY.' Musk’s reply was explosive. He claimed Trump's name was on the Epstein client list and that's why the files have remained secret. Musk briefly threatened to decommission the Dragon spacecraft (the one that rescued the astronauts that Biden left stranded in the International Space Station), fortunately, he walked that back later. Trump, meanwhile, says he's done talking.
Bottom line: Both would do well, and conservatives would certainly benefit, if they took this feud behind closed doors.
Washington's Spending Addiction
Progress on the rescission package aimed at codifying DOGE cuts continues to crawl through Congress at an excruciating pace. At this rate, Republicans, assuming they finally pull themselves together, might manage to pass it within a month. But the reality is Democrats aren’t the only ones addicted to burning taxpayer dollars. Plenty of Republicans are guilty too.
President Trump’s recent $9.4 billion rescission proposal takes direct aim at foreign aid and domestic propaganda outlets PBS and NPR, those taxpayer-funded channels that relentlessly demonize conservatives. They are supposed to be neutral, giving both sides of the issues as they are publicly funded, but instead they use your taxpayer dollars to spread Leftist talking points. Trump’s message is crystal clear: the days of using your money to broadcast liberal narratives must end. But Congress needs to pick up the pace if real change is going to happen.
ICE-Breaking Records
On a brighter note, ICE has delivered record-breaking deportation numbers this week, surpassing all previous agency highs. Following Trump's directive, daily deportations have surged to around 3,000. That’s progress worth celebrating, a genuine step forward and a much-needed breath of fresh air.
On the contrary, though, even at 3,000 per day, we're barely scratching the surface. At this rate, Trump's administration will have deported just about 15-20% of those allowed in under Biden since 2020. The momentum is good, but it's far from enough. We need to continue to ramp things up to fulfill President Trump’s most fundamental promise. Trump's pen has done more in the early days of his administration than almost any other president, but things need to keep scaling up, not plateauing.
Thanks for reading this week's Cannon. The fight for America’s future continues — online, in Congress, and in culture.
