Democrats Are Taking the Drug Side in the War on Drugs
Venezuela is up in arms, calling President Trump a pirate and a thief after the U.S. seized a sanctioned oil tanker in the Caribbean. The ship in question was sanctioned in 2022 by the Biden Administration as it was transporting oil for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and has since been used by the Maduro regime — which the U.S. does not recognize as a legitimate government.
The larger concern that the Trump Administration has with the South American dictatorship is the massive drug flow that pours into our country, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans every year from overdose. Our military has been laser focused on removing the threat, blowing up drug-smuggling boats and even discussing land strikes on cartel headquarters in Venezuela.
Despite the overall support from the American people for the strikes, the Democrats are unsurprisingly up in arms about the strikes. Democrat leaders have denounced the attacks and made calls for war crime charges, the removal of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and have been beating the pro-drug smuggler drum for weeks. There’s one problem — the legal authority the military has to conduct the strikes was a bill from 1986… one that received “yes” votes from Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, and other notable names that still remain prominent in the Democrat Party.
There’s a simple political calculation here: President Trump is taking the winning side of an issue that the Democrats have no answer for. Americans do not support drug cartels poisoning our citizens, and this administration is stopping it. Democrats aren’t offering an alternative, just complaining about the guy who received a mandate from the people fulfilling his campaign promises.
People want to be able to have their kids walk down the street where they own a home, not get mugged, not get offered drugs, and live in a cohesive American community. It really is that simple. And if it takes some Pirates of the Caribbean tactics to get there, so be it.
