Time to SAVE America
Last April, the House passed the SAVE Act which required voters to show ID when voting in federal elections. The Senate never passed it.
Now reintroduced to bolster the bill, the SAVE America Act will require states to verify citizenship to register voters as well as require ID at the ballot box, both necessary steps to secure our elections.
Congressman Chip Roy and Senator Mike Lee are leading the charge, but the biggest hurdle remains in the Senate which after nearly 300 days has not passed the original SAVE Act. Pressure is mounting on Majority Leader Thune to restore the historic “standing filibuster” which requires Senators to speak and hold the floor in order to stop the progression of a bill rather than the 60 vote threshold. The willpower is lacking in some Senate Republicans, but the American people don’t want excuses, we want results.
This week, the Senate managed to pass billions of dollars in foreign aid for Israel, Egypt, and Mongolia - just to name a few of the sixteen countries - demonstrating yet again that our leaders have their priorities out of whack. Congress needs to get their act together, listen to the 95% of Republicans and 71% of Democrats that support the bill, and do whatever it takes to get it passed into law. If Republicans don’t get this across the finish line, we can kiss the majority goodbye in November.
