Sens. Mike Lee and Ted Cruz are urging every Republican senator to stay in town to vote to defund President Joe Biden's vaccine mandates as the senate continues to try to pass a bill to avoid a government shutdown.
There's good reason for Sens. Lee and Cruz's urgency.
The Hill reported Thursday, "The problem for Democrats right now is math: Because more Democratic senators than GOP senators are absent, amendments from Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), which are expected to get a vote before the final passage of the government funding bill, would currently pass and get added into the short-term bill."
"Both amendments from Cruz and Lee are expected to only need a simple majority of those voting to be added into the continuing resolution (CR), that will fund the government through March 11," The Hill reported.
Every Republican must show up to vote for this. Who might be missing?
The Hill noted, "During a vote the Senate held early Thursday afternoon, five senators were missing: Two Republicans, Sens. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and three Democrats, Sens. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.). Lujan recently had a stroke, while Feinstein and Kelly are dealing with family medical emergencies."
Some of these Democrats are dealing with some horrendous health problems and we wish them a speedy recovery, but it doesn't change the fact that Republicans must take advantage of the numbers today in a typically 49-50 Senate where right now the GOP has a de facto majority.
If all Republicans show up. Right now, Sens. Burr and Graham need to find their way to the Capitol, pronto.
If you can't show up to vote for THIS, what are you good for? What are Republicans good for?
Democrat leaders are serving the GOP this opportunity on a silver platter. The Hill reported, "Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) vowed that Democrats would stay in town, telling reporters that, 'We’re not gonna leave. We’re not going to let a few outliers shut the government down."
Right now tens of thousands of truckers to our north are out in subfreezing temperatures, standing on principle to fight the ridiculous mandates in Canada. They are even being threatened with jail time.
Can't Republicans simply show up to vote? It doesn't matter what other plans you might have had today or this weekend: This takes precedent. It's the reason you ran as a Republican and were elected by voters.
Failure to act could be Obamacare all over again, where the federal government's reach continues to grow well beyond the guardrails of the Constitution and then some. This is about a low a bar as you can get.
All Republican senators must be or stay in Washington.
All Republicans must vote to defund these horrific vaccine mandates.
