Codify President Trump's Border Security Actions
One of the most consequential priorities facing Congress right now is codifying President Trump’s border security actions into law.
Over the past year, the southern border has been secured and illegal crossings have fallen to near zero. That outcome exposes one of the biggest lies of the Biden era: that enforcing immigration law required new legislation. President Trump proved the opposite. What the country needed was not more laws, but a president willing to enforce the ones already on the books.
But executive action alone is not enough. Without codifying these policies, everything this administration has accomplished can be undone the moment a Democrat returns to the Oval Office.
That is why legislation like H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, is essential. Passed by the House in 2023 and ignored by the Senate, it would end catch-and-release, stop abuse of the asylum and parole systems, and accelerate completion of the border wall. These are not optional reforms. They are the core of the mandate Republicans received in the 2024 election.
The clock is already ticking. With midterms approaching, failure to lock in these gains risks turning real progress into a temporary pause rather than a lasting correction. If Congress does not act now to build the wall, increase penalties for visa violations, fix the corruption embedded in the asylum system, and mandate immigration enforcement, a future administration will simply dismantle it all with the stroke of a pen.
This is the moment to make border security permanent, not provisional.
